TIS THE SEASON FOR DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM FAM TRIPS
Publication Date: 5/12/2010

‘TIS THE SEASON FOR DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM FAM TRIPS
Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (May 12, 2010) – The Department of Tourism’s (DOT) Familiarization Programme Trips (FAMS) have officially begun for 2010. The season commenced with a memorable trip for eight influential and prominent travel agents from around the US, all of whom are top producers and winners in the Cayman Islands Rewards Programme.
From May 6 to May 10, the agents embarked upon a trip filled with all of the best that Cayman has to offer such as accommodations at the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, ground transfers with Grand Limousine Service, cocktails at Camana Bay followed by a tour of the attraction, dinner at Osetra Bay with boat transfers to and from Camana Bay aboard Cayman Luxury Charters and a tour of Cotton Tree in West Bay.
While on Grand Cayman, the group also enjoyed a Stingray City excursion and tours of Pedro St. James Castle, the QEII Botanic Park, Boatswain’s Beach and Grand Cayman’s major properties and dined at some of the island’s most notable restaurants, including Casanova by the Sea, Icoa, Schooner’s Bar and Grill, The Wharf, Treats, Brick House and Ristorante Pappagallo.

The first FAM trip of the season included a tour of Boatswain’s Beach, led by the attraction’s Marketing Manager, Calicia Burke (far left)
On their last day in the Cayman Islands, the group enjoyed a short day trip to Little Cayman, making stops at Bloody Bay, Jackson’s Pond, East End Point Lighthouse, Point of Sand, Blossom Village, the Booby Pond and Mahogany Estates for a bit of play time with the resident iguanas, and dined with some of the local residents who frequent Little Cayman Beach Resort and Pirate’s Point.
Among the travel agents were Nicole Boyt, Tammy Jo Crase, Luanne Harden, Karen Bavoso, Annette Ernest, Kristin Bongiovi, Margaret King and Lorine Ryder.
FAMS are organized by the DOT for qualified travel consultants, wholesalers and tour operators and are designed to assist them in promoting the Cayman Islands to prospective visitors. This group was the first of 10-20 FAMS which are planned during May and October, and subsequent groups will include approximately 10-20 agents from the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Continental Europe. The FAMS play an integral role in the Cayman Islands marketing programme in that they offer a high quality experience to the travel trade, which in turn assists in driving visitation to the destination.
